HEAVY FIGHTING CHANG TSO-LIN’S FORCES ATTACKING ADVANCE ACROSS YELLOW RIVER (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) Shanghai, July 7. The struggle for the possession of Tsingtao continues. The rebel General Chen Yehsing was attacked by the Kiachow garrison under Commander Chu. Hostilities are proceeding 18 miles from Tsing-tao. The tide of battle favours the Kiachow forces. Chang Tso-lin’s forces are reported to have advanced, crossing the Yellow river and compelling the retreat of Feng Yuhsing and checking a flank attack in alliance with Chiang Kai-shek driving from the south.—A. and N.Z. CHINESE LEAGUE REPRESENTATIVE RESIGNS. JOINING NATIONALIST PARTY. (Rec. 10.20 p.m.) Geneva, July 8. Mr Chu has notified the Secretariat of the League of Nations that he is resigning from the Council as he has decided to join the Chinese Nationalist Government. The Pekin Government therefore has no representative at Geneva. When Pekin recalled her Diplomats from Europe, Mr Chu went to Geneva and has been representing the Pekin Government at his own expense.—A. and N.Z.
