LAND DEAL

MISREPRESENTATION ALLEGED. ACTION AGAINST COMPANY. (Per United Press Association.) Hamilton, June 20. Induced by alleged representations that the land was of excellent quality and highly suitable for dairying, a large number of Taranaki farmers a few years ago took up areas of land in what is known as the Matarua Block at Tokaroa near Rotorua. A number of these settlers alleging the land is cattlesick and was misrepresented to them, have instituted an action against the vendors, the Matarua Land Company, for an aggregate suin of £17,936 damages. The cases for hearing in the present session against the Matarua Land Company are the claims of H. and A. H. Cairns £5,347; George D. Pinny £4,174; Frederick F. Rogers £100; Michael McDonnell £5,442; Arthur S. Allen £1,196 and Alfred W. Townsend £1,649. The case is now proceeding before Mr. Justice Herdman and a special jury. The case of George Donald Pinny is expected to last five days.
