WYNDHAM NOTES
THE WEATHER. (From Our Correspondent.) The weather during the last week-end has ’ been fine, the chief item on the weather menu being hard frosts followed with bright | sunny days. Rain has been very scarce dur- 1 ing the last month and several of the retd- i dents have tp revert to the use of pumps : for procuring water for household and i other purposes. i FORESTERS’ BALL. The annual ball of Court Royal Oak (Ancient Order of Foresters) was held in the Wyndham Town Hall on Friday even- ■ ing, when a large representative gathering were present from all parts of the district, , including visitors from Invercargill, Gore, Mat aura and Edendaie. Among those present were the district secretary (Bro. J. K. McPhee) and Past District Chief Ranger (Bro. Churchill) representing the district executive. The Hall was neatly decorated with coloured lights and streamers which gave the interior a very pleasing effect. Some 60 couples took part in the Grand March which was headed by the Chief Ranger (bro. Norman Dobbie) and Sister G. Wilson. • The musical part of the programme was supplied by Rollo Swindley’s jazzopaters, of Invercargill, who carried out their duties in a very excellent manner. The catering was in the capable hands of the local caterer (Mr A. Lindsay) who supplied the inner wants in his usual firstclass manner. Bros. A. Wilson, T. A. Hunter and Dobbie carried out the duties of M.’s C. in their usual courteous and obliging manner, and kept the dance swinging merrily until about 2 a.m. Extras were played by Mrs H. C. Grace and Mrs L. Harley. PETITION. A large number of signatures have already been signed on the circular petitioning the Railway Department to increase the present service as under: —To increase the present service by running the railway motor bus from Wyndham to Edendaie and back on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, so as to meet the train arriving at Edendaie from the north at 4 p.m. Under the present service the business community of Wyndham and others suffer great inconvenience and delay by having no connection with the goods train from Dunedin as, on these days, this train carries a very large mail and also the northern papers. Under the present service these mails and papers are not available to the Wyndham residents until after business hours, arriving at 6.30 p.m.
