A clause in the Finance Committee’s report recommended that the Southland Elec- ? trie Power Board be requested to delete from its agreement with the Gore consumers the clause relative to the charge of 5/- per horse-power per month for electric motors. The committee’s recommendation was adopted by the council. Councillor W. D. Shelton said quite a number of citizens had approached him in regard to the way in which the Power Board was sending out its accounts. They did not appear to think that the board was keeping its agreement with the borough in

regard to the charge made for light and power. It seemed that the board was introducing a new idea by charging on a pro rata basis, instead of taking the readings from the meter. He moved that the matter be referred to the Lighting Committee with power to act. The motion was seconded and adopted. The Mayor said that he understood that seven residents in Talbot street desired to have their premises linked up, but that on being consulted the board’s engineer had stated that 22 poles would require to be erected and that the expense of linking up these residences would be too great in comparison with the small amount of current that would be consumed. The council decided to request the board to have these residences linked up.
