CONCERT AT WAIKAKA
GORE S.A. PARTY. A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. With a view to supplementing its funds, the Gore Corps of the Salvation Army on Wednesday evening visited Waikaka to give a concert. The residents of the district turned out in large numbers, and the Salvationists were accorded a most enthusiastic reception, the effort proving a most successful one socially and financially. Captain Armstrong presided, and in a brief speech he returned thanks for the support given to the corps. The programme submitted was of a diverse nature, and every item was well received. The following was the programme: Opening chorus, “Stand Up for Jesus”; prayer, Y.P.S.M. Hodge; Bible reading, Sister Annie Hamilton; selection, “On to Victory,” Band; solo, “Jesus, Saviour, Pilot Me,” S.M. Hodge, recitation, “Things are Not what They Seem to Be,” Miss Bessie Hodge; instrument duet, “French March,” Captain and Mrs Armstrong; company song, songsters; Lancashire reading, “Who’s Gaffer?” Captain Armstrong; dialogue, “The Bridegroom’s Dilemma,” Hodge family; cornet duet, “Will o’ the Wisp,” Captain and Bandsman Armstrong; vocal solo, Bandsman N. Hamilton; march, “Brave and Daring,” Band; recitation, “He Came Unawares,” Sister A. Hamilton; euphonium solo, songster-leader Coates; dialogue, “Who Killed the Chicken?” Hodge family; recitation, “Old Scissors,” Captain Armstrong; mandolin and guitar duet, Captain and Mrs Armstrong; march, “Joyful Soldiers,” Band. A pleasing evening ended with the singing of the National Anthem and the pronouncing of the benediction.
