BIRCHWOOD HUNT

MEET OF THE HOUNDS AT TUATAPERE. The sixth meet of the Birchwood Hounds took place at Tuatapere on Wednesday, the weather being admirably suited for the occasion. Mr P. Forde, Senior, kindly allowed the trail to be laid through his property, while the Messrs Forde had the fences arranged in fine order. Two runs were held during the afternoon, commencing on the rise below the fine homestead and finishing at the same point. A delightful afternoon tea which was thoroughly enjoyed by all was supplied by Miss Forde and Mrs Brookes, and was kindly handed around by the local ladies. Mr W. North thanked the Messrs Forde for their kind services in giving the use of their property and in helping to make the afternoon a success. The followers were:—Mr W. North (actingmaster) on Greenstone; Mr Martin O’Brien (huntsman), on Springbok; Mr J. Langford (whip), on Lady Chicken; G. Bennett on Siki; G. White on Cider; P. Morton on Satan; D. Sloane on Casna; J. Forde on Quito; B. Henderson on Dolly; G. Allen on Golden Fleet; F. Dowling on Waiau; A. Laurie on Ginger; A. Prentice on Digger; E. Mackie on Gaiety; Jack Sheehan on Snowball; and P. Smith on Knobby. The maiden jumping competition controlled by Mr T. O’Brien and judged by Messrs F. Bates and C. Ley, resulted as follows:—Mr T. Forde’s Quito, 1; Mr P. Morton’s Satan 2.
