MONEY GOING BEGGING.
To the Editor. Sir, —The letter of “Persistent” in to-day’s (Tuesday’s) issue is very much to the point and I fail to see how it can be ignored by the present council who were returned with a special mandate to clear the water question up and have done with it. Unless they move very much more swiftly, we may set them down as being no whit better than the council they have replaced. Every one of “Persistent’s” facts and opinions should be considered by the council and declared true or false. It will not do to pass such statements by as of no account. That was the manner of the late council and we know how it fared. Again is our council going to insist on the enforcement of the penalty clause? If not, why not? If they do it will mean that so much less of our money will “go west,” in Councillor Campbell’s phrase.—l am etc., “PRUDENT.”
