On September 13, 1926, a bomb was thrown at Mussolini who escaped unhurt, a number of spectators being injured. The assailant, supposed at the time to be a country stone mason and to be named Giovannini, was arrested. It subsequently became known that his real name was Givo Lucetti, aged 26, a native of Tuscany, who had been living in Marseilles for some years past.
