NORTH INVERCARGILL
PUBLIC HALL COMMITTEE MEETING. A meeting of the general committee was held in the hall on Thursday evening, Mr J. H. Kissell, being in the chair. Ordinary routine business disposed of, some discussion took place as to the form of the celebrations in connection with the first anniversary of the opening of the hall, when it was resolved that attraction number one should be in the form of a gigantic euchre tournament to be held on Monday, June 2, at which it was proposed to break all records as far as the prize-list is concerned, a valuable dinner set being offered as first prize. On Wednesday, June 22, there will be held a social evening at which games and dancing may be engaged in, with a game of cards for those who feel so disposed. The proceedings will be interspersed with musical items, both vocal and instrumental, whilst the whole will be capped by the provision of an excellent handed round supper. It was further resolved to make the chief annual event that of a Carnival, and the approximate date of this year’s function was set down as the middle of August. Considerable enthusiasm was shown in the matter of making this an unqualified success, and it Is hoped to be able to announce several novel features in connection therewith. A popular attraction definately decided on was that of a tug-of-war tournament, at which the prizes of £lO for first and £5 for second will be competed for by the teams entering. Included in the programme are the various stalls, etc., incidental to the holding of a function of this kind, full particulars of which will be given in an advertisement appearing in this paper in due course.
