UNITED STATES WHEAT
DECREASE OF THIRTY PER CENT. Washington, June 9. The Department of Agriculture indicates that winter wheat production will total 537,000,000 bushels, which is 72 per cent, of normal. The Secretary of Agriculture (Mr Jardine) expresses a hope for better prices for wheat than have hitherto prevailed. He states that this year’s yield will be lower than 1926, estimates indicating that the crop will be 33,000,000 bushels less and new estimates expected shortly will increase the diminution. This shortage will naturally tend to increase prices. There has been some drought in Oklahoma and Colorado, but in other parts of the West which be visited on a recent trip the crop is good. He believes the price of wheat now is the crop price.—A. and N.Z.
