HITTING BACK?
WOOLLEN PRODUCTS EXCLUSION. NOTTINGHAM ALARMED. London, May 23. Following the anxiety of the Nottingham manufacturers of woollen hosiery and underwear regarding Australia’s rumoured intention to exclude their products from the Commonwealth, Mr. F. B. Varley, M.P., is approaching the Dominions’ Office with a view to invoking a spirit of Empire cooperation. Alternatively he proposes bringing pressure to bear on Australia by adjustments in Britain’s preferential tariffs. Mr. Varley states that alteration in Australian duties frequently results in a 100 per cent, imposition on manufactured piece goods. —Sun Special.
