TEAROOM WORKERS
WAGES IN DISPUTE. COURT RESERVES DECISION. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, June 10. Failure to agree in the Conciliation Council on the principal clause in dispute, that of wages, resulted in the application of the Dominion Tea Rooms and Restaurant Employees’ Association for a new award coming before the Arbitration Court to-day. The principal claims of the workers were as follows .—Where six or more hands are employed, chief cook £6 10/-; second cook £5 10/-; third cook £4 10/-; fourth cook £4. All other workers £3 10/-. Relatively smaller claims were made where fewer hands were employed. Where one hand was employed the claim was for £4. For hands in dining rooms, the wages claimed varied from £4 5/- for head watiers to £2 5/- for a waitress. The counter-proposals of the employers were identical with the existing award. After hearing evidence, Mr Justice Frazer, who presided, said that the Court would give its decision in due course.
