ELECTRIC POWER
ARAPUNI WORKS. DELAY IN COMPLETION. (Per United Press Association.) Hamilton, June 9. In view of the delay of the completion of the hydro-electric works at Arapuni, the Minister of Publie Works met representative Power Boards here to-day to ascertain the possible power requirements for the next 12 months. The Minister said if the demand was such as to warrant the installation of a special plant, the Government would do this, but would expect the boards to ehare the expense. The Government had fulfilled its contracts and the circumstances which had arisen were unforeseen. The additional charge, the Minister said, would be made on extra power only. The conference agreed that the Government, should provide the auxiliary, but when the anticipated increase in power needs was totted up, it was found to be les? by 2,000 killowatta than the present plant was capable of. Mr Furkett said in answer to a question that it was expected the Arapuni contract would be finished in 18 months, but personally he thought it would be completed before and <hat power would be available from there next winter.
