HEROIC RESCUE

A PLUCKY GIRL. SAVES TWO LIVES. (Per United Press Association.) Palmerston North, June 9. Wlule playing on the bank of Mangaone stream yesterday two children named Terangi, aged 3A and 6 years respectively, fell into the flooded stream. The cries of two other children brought rescuers. Jane Terangi, aged 14, who was unable to swim, jumped into the water and was clasped by the elder of the two children, who had hold of the younger, the rescuer getting to the bank, which she clutched hold of. at the same time supporting the other children until all were rescued in an exhausted condition. The plucky action of Jane Terangi averted a drowning tragedy. The youngest child was in a very serious state when rescued, but after treatment at a neighbour’s home revived.
