Mr Charles Todd left by car yesterday for Gore. Mr J. B. Shacklock and Mr M. C. Henderson (city electrical engineer) left Dunedin yesterday morning for Wellington. Mr A. E. Wells (Macky, Logan and Caldwell) started from Dunedin yesterday morning for a business journey to England and the Continent. At yesterday’s meeting of the Southland Hospital Board, Mr J. Matheson was re-ap-pointed the board’s representative on the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee. Mr Richard Matthews, assistant Australasian manager for James Buchanan and Co., of Glasgow and London, left Dunedin yesterday morning for Sydney. Sir Thomas Mackenzie arrived in Dunedin on Wednesday from Edendale and went north yesterday morning, intending to stay with his daughter at Rotorua until Parliament meets. Mr. W. A. McCaw, architect for the Southland Education Board, accompanied by Mr Hugh Smith, a member of the board, visited the Pukerau, Knapdale and Otama districts yesterday. At yesterday’s meeting of shareholders of the Mat aura Dairy Factory Company Ltd. a resolution of sympathy with Mr A. Stevenson in his recent bereavement was carried in Mie customary manner. The death is announced of Mr H. B. Halley, who for over 40 years was in the employ of the Union Steam Ship Company as chief steward and shore providore. Since leaving the service he had been living in retirement. Advice has been received that the Minister of External Affairs (Hon. W. Nosworthy) and party arrived at Apia from Auckland on Friday last. The Minister will remain about a fortnight in Samoa and return home via Sydney. Mr C. H. Burnett has been elected the Crown tenants’ representative on the Wellington Land Board. Mr Burnett received 362 votes, as against 292 polled by his opponent, Mr H. T. Ellingham. The board consists of four members, three of whom are appointed by the Government and one by the tenants. The election takes place every three years.
