WYNDHAM NOTES

MENZIES FERRY CARNIVAL. (From Our Correspondent.) A public meeting was held in the Menzies Ferry Public Hall on Monday evening 6th inst., some 30 ladies and gentlemen being present, the object being to set about raising funds to enlarge and generally renovate the hall. Mr F. W. J. Crosbie was called upon to preside. The secretary of the hall committee, Mr N. Ross, produced a statement which showed the hall to be free of debt, and with a credit balance of £ll 2/4, which was adopted. A hall committee was elected as follows:—Chairman, Mr F. W. J. Crosbie; secretary, Mr Neil Ross; committee, Messrs D. P. Christie, G. W. Stewart and T. H. Craig. It was unanimously decided to hold a bazaar and public carnival during the second week of September, and towards that end three tiny tots were nominated as princesses: —School, (White) Allison Weir; Factory, (Red) Jean Henderson; Hall (Blue) Dorothy June Ross. The following strong committee was set up:—Miss Mac Kay (chair), Miss McLellan (secretary). Mesdames T. H. Craig, J. H. Henderson and Taylor. Misses Caldwell, Violet, Ruby and Eveline Crosbie, and Messrs J. H. Henderson, N. J. Henderson, J. Crosbie Jnr., R. Stewart, W. Gregory, T. Fenton, J. Fraser, A. McCallum, and R. Gibb Jnr. These are to work with the hall .committee, in connection with the bazaar etc. A gift afternoon is to be held on Wednesday, 15th inst in the hall, which all the ladies of the district are cordially invited to attend. It was unanimously decided to hold a plain and fancy dress on Wednesday evening, June 29, in aid of funds, and the chairman and secretary were instructed to engage a first-class orchestra for the occasion. A very successful meeting terminated with a hearty vote of thanks to the chair, and to the ladies for turning out on such a cold night.
