RAILWAY FREIGHTS

CARRIAGE OF HONEY. CONCESSION WHERE MOTOR COMPETITION. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, June 9. In the course of a discussion on railway freights at the National Beekeepers’ Association conference to-day, Mr E. W. Sage, South Auckland, said that if a beekeeper produced to a stationmaster a certificate showing that he could obtain freight by motor to any particular point, the railways were always prepared to meet the competition and reduce the charges 1 accordingly. He had approached his local stationmaster with a certain price for motor transport and the stationmaster made arrangements to take his honey at the same price. Mr A. R. Bates, Taranaki, said the railway business agent who had visited Taranaki in connection with honey freights, had stated that where the railways were up against motor competition, it was possible some concession would be made.
