SOCCER

CANADIANS DEFEAT NELSON. VISITORS’ SUPERIOR COMBINATION. (Per United Press Association.) Nelson, June 9. The Soccer match between the Canadians and Nelson this afternoon was played in fine weather before a good attendance. Canada won by 5 to nil. In the first spell, the visitors scored within a quarter of an hour of the start, but thereafter the play was of a fairly even nature, Nelson several times calling upon the goalie to save. In the second half, play was of a faster character, and after adding another goal in the first minute a spell of even play followed until the last 20 minutes, when the visitors added three more goals. The Canadians were a much better combination than the locals, and got off some pretty movements. Nelson lacked finish, and although they stuck to it throughout were up against a team well versed in the fine points of the game. The scorers for Canada were Davidson, Thompson, Milligan, Turner and Williams.
