Birthday Fund

From Cousin Frances Kerr—three pennies. Cousin Hazel: Welcome to our Page, my dear. Of course I will enrol you, and for a little girl I think your writing is very good indeed. Just you tell mother that! I hope you will continue to race for the paper on Saturday mornings, and that the more you read our Page, the better you will like it. I hope, too, that it won’t be long before you are reading some of your own work there. Are you learning dancing yet? And can you beat your sister? Cousin Wildflower: As you say, my dear, being a prefect isn’t all sugar plums. Yes, I speak from experience. Please be in a “letter-writing” mood often, especially if I am to reap the benefit. Believe me, I like it. I am glad you saw the doctor in time —meningitis is an illness I hope none of my Cousins will ever have. You must look after yourself, and don’t catch cold. I should say I am looking forward to “No, No, Nanette.” I have been doing that for two years now. Cousin Hazel: When my Cousins strive to do their best, little Cousin, I am diways satisfied. For that is the absolute most anyone could expect, isn’t it. And I think your best is a very good one, too, so just keep on trying, and you’ll be surprised at what you can do. What do you like best—drawing, or making poetry? Cousin Primrose: It was nice hearing from you again, dear, although I should like to

receive more frequent letters from you. Are you really shifting again? Not from the district, I hope? 'That wouldn’t be good for your schooling. No, I have not read “Heidie?” Tell me about it. I am glad you have a good library, and that you are doing so well at school. See that you carry out your ambition. Cousin Pixie: I think it was quite time you “came to light again.” I am looking forward to a very much longer letter from you in the near future. Yes, you were indeed lucky on your birthday. Please write again soon —and for the competitions, too!
