BEAUTIFYING SURROUNDINGS DRUMMOND AND BRYDONE TIE. FORTROSE A GOOD THIRD. (From Our Correspondent.) The results of the offer by Messrs Fleming and Company, Ltd., of Gore, of substantial cash prizes, and a handsome trophy, are to be seen in the splendid improvements effected by the above named factories in the surroundings of their premises. Mr Sutherland, manager of the Drummond factory, may have had the advantage of starting with a handsome new building, but his work in the laying out of driveway, lawns, flower beds, and the planting of trees and shrubs, goes a long way in setting off the fine building. Mr Wyeth of the Brydone factory, is deserving of fully equal credit, because he had an old building to furbish up. The improvement in the appearance of this factory is most marked, and is constantly commented upon by passengers by road and rail.
Mr Speden, at Fortrose, although far off the beaten track of motorists and other travellers, has done good work, as the judges’ marks denote. The judges appointed by the committee of the Southland A. and P. Association were Messrs Allen C. Ford, architect, and A. L. Adamson, secretary of the association.
