WORLD CONFERENCE PROTECTING THE GROWERS’ INTERESTS POSITION IN SOVIET RUSSIA (By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) New York, May 5. While the delegates at the wheat conference at Kansas City have not decided what form of co-operation will be sought, all arc confident that some means will be found whereby the interests of units may be combined into a whole, and some plan whereby farmers in one country may be protected in bad years will be outlined. The meeting of nine United States pools resulted in a proposal for combining into one national pool, following the Canadian plan, which would own the principal grain elevators of the country and handle the bulk of the United States wheat crop. The Russian delegates want to establish contacts with the great wheat pools of the world to protect world agricultural interests through combination. M. Saul Bron, chairman, stated that the Russians were interested in the same principles sought by the Canadian, Australian and American wheat growers, namely stab ilisation of market and elimination of speculation at the expense of farmers. The. Russian co-operative system was different from the others because it had a monopoly of the export of all grains representing six and a half million Russian farms. The Soviet was now exporting only thirty per cent, of the pre-war total, although Russian wheat was grown cheaper than in other countries, the cost of production being on the average 60 cents per bushel.—A. and N.Z. and Sun Cable.
