THE MAYORALTY
COUNCILLOR MILLER’S CANDIDATURE. A large and representative meeting of those interested in the candidature of Councillor John Miller for the Mayoralty at the forthcoming municipal elections, was held last evening. On the motion of Dr. Stewart the following resolution was passed: —“That this representative meeting of ratepayers form a general committee and pledge itself to support and vote for the candidature of Councillor John Miller, and do everything in its power to secure his return.” Mr A. G. Kerr was appointed organising secretary of the committee. Several districts in the town were mapped out and committees were appointed to look after Councillor Miller’s interests in these areas. The opinion was expressed that the Press should not have made any editorial reference to the candidates until after their inaugural addresses. It was announced that a meeting would be held in Victoria Hall on April 22, when an invitation would be extended to all candidates for council honours to speak.
A brief address was given by Councillor Miller, who expressed gratitude at the help which he had received from his friends directly it was announced that he would stand for the mayoralty.
