PURCHASING VALUE
THE POUND TO-DAY. COMPARED WITH 1914. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, April 5. According to the Government Statistician’s figures, it now takes 32/5$ on the average to purchase what could be purchased for 20/- in July, 1914. Expenditure on food constitutes somewhat less than two-fifths of the expenditure of the average household. Prices in clothing and miscellaneous groups have been very steady since November, with a gradual declining tendency, but rent has risen.
