LUMSDEN NOTES
(From Our Correspondent.) The tennis match Lumsden v. Balfour was played at the Lumsden courts on Saturday. The game created considerable interest and a large number of spectators including a large number of visitors from Balfour witnessed the various games. The match proved to be a close contest, Lumsden winning by 9 sets to 7, and 81 games to 75. The weather was fine and a good exhibition of tennis was given. The result of the match puts Lumsden in the lead for the Campbell Cup and with only one match left to play, are in a strong position for the premiership. The following are the scores, Lumsden names first:— LADIES’ DOUBLES. Miss Brotherston and Mrs Biggar 6 v. Mrs Wilson and Miss Sheed 3. Miss Belsham and Mrs McDonald 6 v. Mrs Henderson and Miss Grant 3. MEN’S DOUBLES. Crosbie and Brown 6 v. Carmody and Savage 4. J. Ogilvy and D. Ogilvy 1 v. Wilson and Sproat 6. COMBINED DOUBLES. Miss Brotherston and Crosbie 8 v. Mrs Wilson and Carmody 6. Mrs Biggar and Brown 6 v. Miss Sheed and Savage 8. Miss Belsham and Ogilvy 4 v. Mrs Henderson and Wilson 6. Mrs McDonald and D. Ogilvy 6 v. Miss Grant and Sproat 3. MEN’S SINGLES. Crosbie 6 v. Carmody 8. Brown 8 v. Savage 6. J. Ogilvy 2 v. Wilson 6. D. Ogilvy 6 v. Sproat 1. LADIES’ SINGLES. Miss Brotherston 1 v. Mrs Wilson 6. Mrs Biggar 6 v. Miss Sheed 3. Miss Belsham 6 v. Mrs Henderson 0. Mrs McDonald 3 v. Miss Grant 6. CRICKET. The local club has arranged a friendly match with Winton on Wednesday to be played at Winton. The following players will represent Lumsden: — W. Richards, A. Heath, J. Ogilvy, V. Richards, D. Ogilvy, H. Heath, C. Belsham, A. Johnson, U. Crosbie, J. Richards, J. Lynch. Members of the local Masonic Lodge paid a visit to Lodge Teviot at Roxburgh on Saturday. The party which comprised members from Dipton, Lumsden and Balfour numbered about forty and left by motors on Saturday morning, The function was held in the evening and the return journey was made the following day. An enjoyable trip was experienced.
