RIMU NOTES

(From Our Correspondent.) In connection with the Queen Carnival movement designed to raise funds for the erection of a hall in the district the combined committees of the sheepfarmers and dairy farmers’ princesses (Miss F. Bulling and Miss M. Brown respectively) held a successful concert in the Kennington Hall on Wednesday last. The bulk of the programme was contributed by the St. Andrew’s Scottish Society’s choir who acquitted themselves so well under the able baton of their conductor, Mr Burns, that the appreciative audience made repeated demands for encores. It is not often that country districts are given the opportunity of hearing such good music as was contributed by this choir, and it goes without saying that the residents of Kennington, •Rimu and surrounding districts are deeply grateful to Mr Burns and his choir for their splendid rendering of the old Scottish songs fhaCatways make a stirring appeal to old and young alike whatever nationality. The items contributed by the choir were as follows: — Part song “Scots Wha Hae,” “Ye Banks and Braes,” “Alton Water,” “Rose of My Heart,” “Hail Smiling Morn,” “Cornin’ through the Rye,” “Cam ye by Athol,” “Annie Laurie,” “Caller Herrin.” Miss D. Smith acted as accompaniste to the choir.

The supporting items were very well received, each meriting well-earned applause and demands for encores. The following contributed: — song Mrs Hargest; recitations, Miss Ruthven; songs, Mr Anderson and Mr D. F. Leckie.

Mr A. Batcheler, the* chairman, at the conclusion of the concert thanked Mr Burns and his choir and those other performers who assisted, and assured them that the combined committees of the two princesses were deeply grateful to them for their valuable assistance.
