A Wellington Press Association message Mates that city officials welcomed the new town engineer, Mr G. Hart, and the Town Clerk, Mr E. T. Norman. The death of Mr Mark Davis, aged 66, founder of the firm of Grierson and Davis, wire and spirit merchants, is announced by a Christchurch Press Association message. The resignation of Miss M. A. Michael, home science mistress at the Southland Girls’ High School, was accepted with regret at the board meeting yesterday evening. At a meeting of the Southland High Schools’ Board yesterday evening Mrs M. Rhodes, M.A., was appointed assistant mistress of the Girls’ High School. Mrs Rhodes graduated at the Canterbury University College and is at present on the staff of the Nelson Girls’ College. The funeral of the late Elizabeth Baird, wife of the Rev. James Baird, took place yesterday afternoon, a large number of friends and relatives following the hearse to the Eastern Cemetery, where the service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. C. J. Tocker. Wreaths were received from the following bodies:—St. Paul’s P.W.M.U., North Invercargill P.W.M.U., North, South and Central branches of the W.C.T.U, South Branch of the Presbyterian Association, Victoria Home Committee, minister and office-bearers of St. Paul’s Church, Busy Bees St. Paul's, Winton Session and the Cowan family. Additional wreaths were also received from friends of the deceased.
