MAY MEAN WAR
RUMANIAN CRISIS ISSUE IN THE BALANCE » ARMY SUPPORTING CAROL (By Telegraph-Press Assn. —Copyright.) Bucharest, December 2. The arrival of Dr. Hartmann to-morrow and Queen Marie on Saturday is likely to decide the issue of peace or war in Rumania. Dr. Hartmann’s examination will decide whether the King will abdicate or try to carry on, after which the Queen will settle the Regency question. The country is bitterly divided concerning the Regency. General Mircescu, War Minister, who is believed to be too sympathetic towards Prince Carol’s claims, has been sent on a prolonged tour of Bessarabia for fear he might use his influence on the army in Carol’s favour. M. Averescu, the Premier, is taking over the War Office meanwhile. M. Bratiano, the Liberal leader and the man behind the throne, says Prince Carol’s return is a dead issue. His renunciation has been accepted by the Government, Parliament and the King, who has written to General Averescu saying he will not tolerate Carol’s return. —A. and N.Z. QUEEN MARIE AND PRINCE CAROL. REPORTED INTERVIEW DENIED. Paris, December 2. It is reported that Queen Marie secretly interviewed Prince Carol for half an hour at a friend’s house. This has since been denied.—A. and N.Z.
