PLUNKET SOCIETY

THE KARITANE HUNT HOME. FINAL MEETING OF THE YEAR. Yesterday morning in Mr E. B. Pilcher’s office, Esk street, the final meeting of the Plunket Society committee for the year was held, the following being present Mesdames T. D. Pearce (President), H. W. Royds, F. H. Hall, Parkin, Stanley Brown, John Macdonald, W. Macalister, C. S. luonguct, R. J. Gilmour, R. A. AndeMcm and J. Robertson. Apologies for absence were receivwd from Mesdames Sale, W. S. Todd aud R. M. Strang. Correspondence dealing with arrangwuientß for the opening day of the Bainfield Home was read by die secret ary. On behalf of himself and his wife the Hon. G. J. Anderson, Gore, sent his b*wt wishw to the society on their new venture, and regretted that they cooW not be present owing to the fact that the Gore Show was on the same day. Mrs Callender wrote from Christchurch enclosing a donation of 10/- for the Lady Ki«g Fellowship fund. Nurse Mclntyre also wrote enthusiastically concerning the progress of Baby Bella, whom Nurse Mclntyre h ’ taken to the Karitane Home in Dunedin after she had been bom prematurely at Kew.

It was announced that owing to the fact that no matron had yet been appointed, the sister (Nurse Mclntyre) had-been authorised t.o get the home ready for the opening, under the advice of Miss Pattrick, fjr Truby King’s secretary, and with the help of Miss Kensington, a qualified Karitane nurse at present in InvercargiH. With regard to the Southland donation to the Lady King Fellowship, 150 appeals were set out to mothers who had benefited by the Plunket Society, resulting in a fund of £lO to date. A motion was issued to make this up to £3O, as the new home was taking up too much of the committee’s energies to start a movement at this time to raise further money for the Fellowship. Instructions had been received from Dunedin by the president that die name of the new home would be the “Karitane Hunt Home.” An expenditure of £153 10/5 including furnishing and salaries was approved by the committee. Mr R_ A. Anderson was appointed chairman for the opening, assisted by Mr H. W. Royds, two members of the Advisory Board, and ii was decided that the speeches would be as few and as short as possible. Arrangemente were completed for decorating with pictures, cushions, vases and flowers, and a possible -wi«ans of conveyance was discussed.

Preparations for Hospital Saturday were also completed. and Mesdames Stanley Brown, R. J. Gilmour and H. W. Royds were appointed to visit the Anderson Home during December anti January. Following an inquiry from a country committee, it was decided to postpone the annual conference of the Plunket Societies* in Southland until early in February of the new year.

A vote of sympathy with Mrs Burwell, who is in hospital recovering from an operation was passed and it was decided to send her a letter expressing the good wishes of the committee for a speedy recovery.
