BANK CLERK CHARGED THREE YEARS’ REFORMATIVE DETENTION. (FVxr United Press Association.) Christchurch, October 29. For stealing £2,000 belonging to the National Bank of New Zealand, Wiffiam Henry Melvin was sentenced to-day to be detained for reformative treatment for three years. Mr Sargent, for Mehdn, said he was 27 years of age and had been employed in the bank for eleven years. He was an exceedingly capable officer. Melvin had speculated in mining shares as well as slow horses. Mr Justice Stringer: “What was tins young man’s salary?” Mr Sargent: “£3OO a year. He is wngte.* Has Honour said prisoner had robbed hii employers by the systematic manipulation of the bank records. It was necessary to impose a substantial sentence.
