“TIRED OF HIS WIFE"
FARL SEEKS DIVORCE. London, October 28. In opening Lady Cowley's case Sir E. Hume-Williams said that Lord Cowley’s trustees allowed the Earl £5OO per month of which his wife got £3OO. If the verdict went against the Countess her allowance would stop. The truth was that the Earl was tired of his wife and wanted to save £3,600 annually. Counsel said there was nothing more in the case than the fact that the Countess stayed at Mrs Collier’s flat which was a Bohemian place where people called each other by their Christian names, wore pyjamas and ran in and out of each other’s rooms.
Lady Cowley while giving evidence several time? burst into tears. She detailed instances of her husband's alleged love affairs. He once confessed he had been unfaithful for a year.—A. & N.Z.
