NOT NECESSARILY RIVALS. Sydney, October 28. Addressing the Country Press Association Conference Mr Fisk, Director of Amalgamated Wireless, said daily newspapers had nothing to fear from wireless as a rival, but indicated that they could use wireless as a valuable adjunct to their business, by the establishment of a central station sending out large volumes of news at high speed. Later they would probably be able to establish a wireless picture service as well.—A. and NX DISCUSSION BY NEWSPAPER PROPRIETORS. Sydney, October 28. The Country Press Association at the closing session, further discussed the question of a wireless news service. After listening to addresses on behalf of broadcasting companies the association adopted resolutions expressing appreciation of the Postmaster-Genera’s decision to allow broadcasted news, under a special license, to be published by the Australian Press, and providing for the appointment of a committee to consider suggestions for the broadcasting of news suitable for the country Press. The secretary of the association mentioned that the Postmaster-General had intimated that he was prepared to grant newspaper proprietors a special license for receiving and publishing broadcasted news that was not copyrighted. The cost of the license would vary with the amount of matter published. The committee appointed by the conference will report later. An announcement was made that arrangements had been completed for the description of the Melbourne Cup to be broadcasted. —A. and N.Z.
