BODY WASHED ASHORE. (Per United Press Association.) Auckland, October 26. The body of an unidentified man was washed ashore at Northcote this morning. TELEGRAPH LINESMAN KILLED. Christchurch, October 26. A Post and Telegraph linesman, J. Rutledge, residing in Woolston, received a shock while working on the wires yesterday and died later at hospital. He leaves a wife and three children. HUMAN SKELETON FOUND. Auckland, October 26. A human skeleton found by boys among brushwood in Waikowhai Park on September 7 has been identified as that of Lawrence Callaghan, married, aged 50 years, who disappeared from his home at Onehunga on August. 17, 1920. The bones were in a sheltered place among the titree with a match-box, pipe and bottle of ink. Mrs Callaghan, giving evidence at the inquest, said prior to his disappearance in August, 1920, her husband had been ill definitely. She identified the articles found as those belonging to her husband. Dr. Murray said there was nothing to indicate the cause of death. The Coroner found the bones were those of Callaghan but there was no evidence how he came by his death. ACCIDENTALLY DROWNED. Wellington, October 26. At the inquest on Dr. Pigeon, who was drowned while fishing at Wainui Omata, the Coroner, Mr Salmon, returned a verdict of death by drowning, the circumstances pointing to the conclusion that deceased accidentally slipped and fell into a deep pool, from which he was unable to extricate himself. a CHINAMAN’S DEATH. Wellington, October 26. At the Coroner’s inquest into the death of Ngan Lie, a market gardener, who met his death by being struck by a train in the Paekakariki tunnel, the driver said he saw someone on the line on entering the tunnel. He sounded the whistle and applied the brakes, but the engine struck the man. The Coroner said deceased, an elderly man, was apparently not acquainted with the running of the trains. No blame was attachable to anyone on the train. A verdict of accidental death was returned. CHILD FATALLY BURNED. Auckland, October 26. A Tahitian child, Maira Tiariki, aged 29 months, died in the hospital to-day as the result of severe burns through her clothing catching fire from some lighted paper near the front of a copper at her parents’ home at Birkenhead.
