PECULIAR ACCIDENT

WOMAN CRUSHED AGAINST POST. CAR OUT OF CONTROL. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, October 25. Yesterday afternoon while sitting- on a seat on the esplanade at Sumner Mrs Matilda Featherstone, aged 65, wife of Captain Featherstone, of Kaiapoi, was killed instantly by being crushed against one of the memorial lamps by a motor car. Her daughter, Mrs Bartley, escaped with slight injuries to her legs. The car was being started by the owner, Henry Neale, when it shot forward, out of control. . The driver tried to avoid the beach and swerved into the seat, crumpling it to matchwood.—A. and N.Z.
