NO HOPE OF RETURN

THE EXILED EX-KAISER. GOVERNMENT DECIDED ON POINT. Berlin, October 24. It is stated by a trustworthy source that the ex-Kaiser has not applied to the Government for authority to return to Germany. If he did so the Government has not given consent. It is stated that the law for the protection of the Republic provides that ex-rulers residing abroad shall only return by permission, which the Government is resolved not to grant because the exKaiser’s presence would only cause anxiety to a great section of the community and have a fateful influence on public opinion abroad. The law referred to expires in July next, but before its expiration the Government will take further stefll to define fiqally the position of the ex-monarch.—A. and N.Z.
