ART UNIONS

IMPROPER PRACTICE. TICKETS SOLD AFTER CLOSING DATE. (Per United Press Association) Wellington, Aug. 3. Charles William Matheson was fined £lO for counselling an agent in the commission of an offence, namely, selling art union tickets after the date fixed for closing the sale. The defence was that he instructed the agent to continue selling, believing an extension had been granted. This had been the custom in previous art unions. Mr Page, S.M., declined to regard the case as one for a nominal penalty.
