RADIO PICTURES
LONDON TO NEW YORK
REGULAR SERVICE INSTITUTED.
(Rec. 5.5 p.m.) New York, April 30. The Radio Corporation of America and the Marconi Wireless Company of England have inaugurated a commercial radio picture service. To-night the first photographs were sent to the New York Times, being of speakers at the table at the Pilgrims’ Society dinner in London held on Wednesday night, followed by a sketch of Mr. Houghton, the United States Ambassador, drawn by Augustus John. The transmission started at London at midnight, but static and mechanical troubles delayed reception, which normally should take 20 to 165 minutes per picture. The dinner photographs showed good likeness of Lord Reading, the guest of honour and of Lord Desborough, the toast-master. —A. and N.Z.
