MANGAHAO POWER BOARD

CURRENT SWITCHED ON. (Per United Press Association.) WAIPAWA, October 20. The ceremony of officially switching on the Mangahao hydro-electric current to supply the Central Hawke’s Bay Power Board took place this afternoon at Ongaonga sub-station. The Prime Minister wired regretting his inability to attend and wishing the scheme the greatest possible success. The opening ceremony was performed by Sir George Hunter, M.P., who briefly reviewed hydro-electric development in New Zealand. Mr C. Pateraon, chairman of the Power Board traversed various steps towards the formation of the board and stated that up to the present the total expenditure of the scheme was £76,350. So far 740 buildings had been connected up. Various other speakers stressed the importance of the scheme as a vital link in the Dominion dectrical chain.
