ECHO OF COURT CASE
MRS LUBBOCK ARRESTED. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, March 15. Mrs Lubbock was arrested on a warrant for allegedly obtaining £lOO under false 1 pretences. She was released on bail until I Monday. i : During the hearing of the action of Mrs Lubbock against Mr F. G. Williams for breach of promise, amazing admissions of indiscriminate proposals were made on behalf of the defendant. He said he believed he proposed to Mr Lubbock, but he could not remember. He should think that he proposed to hundreds of women. He asked a lot jokingly. Captain Charles Leake, defendant’s son-in-law, gave evidence that the defendant, at the end of 1923, was invariably drunk. Witness knew that defendant had proposed to ten women, and he gave one who was well connected a cheque for £7OO and also carte blanche to purchase dresses. She promptly put the cheque into the fire. Defendant seemed to think he was godfather to the whole world, and wanted presents ranging from a Rolls-Royce motor-car to a knitted jumper. The Jury awarded her £5OO damages.
