PROGRESSIVE LEAGUE. PROPOSED SOUTHLAND COURT. (From our Correspondent.) • The monthly meeting of the Executive of the Orepuki and District Progressive League was held in the Club Room, Riverton, on Monday evening, the President (Mr Thos. Rae) in the chair, and members present were: Messrs Wilson, Castle, EgerLon, Caulfield, Mclntyre, Hennessey, Suddaby (secretary). SOUTHLAND COURT. From Mr J. E. Winsloe, representing the proposed Southland Court at the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition, reminding the League that the closing date for applications for space at the Exhibition was March 31, and suggesting that the League advise him of a date suitable to them when he would visit Orepuki and explain matters to them. He added that he had twelve different centres to visit.—The majority of members of the League were of opinion that the Orepuki district could furnish a good exhibit, being rich in shale, oil, coal, timber, flax, cheese and gold—few districts were better endowed. It was decided to advise Mr Winsloe that the 10th or 11th inst. were suitable dates, and if he thought it advisable the League would be pleased to meet him on either date. Tuesday night being preferable. OTHER MATTERS. Mr Castle reported that the authorised works on the beach had been taken in hand. Mr Caulfield reported having interviewed Mr Morris in regard to removal of the logs from the mouth of Falls Creek, and placing them at the foot of the embankment at the end of Dover street, and that the latter had agreed to do the work. Mr Egerton again brought up the matter of the dangerous turn on the main road at Sandy Creek. It was mentioned that the County Council intended to do something to reduce the dangerous condition of the turning at Bennett’s, and the meeting finally decided that the secretary write to the member for the
riding (Mr H. Garden) with a view to having something done at Sandy Creek, and also to widen the entrance to the Riverton direct road at the finger-post at Pahia. It was decided that, seeing the picnic season was now practically over, that the coppers be brought up from the beach and placed under cover.
