SUSPECT AT OAMARU. DUNEDIN, March 4. The district medical officer of health (Dr J. H. Crawshaw) stated at noon to-day that one positive case had been removed to hospital—a five-year-old boy from Canongate. This was the only new Dunedin case. A suspect has been admitted to the Oamaru Hospital. At noon there were thirteen positive cases in Otago and Southland. IN OTHER PARTS. FRESH CASE AT TIMARU. TIMARU, March 4. One fresh case of infantile paralysis was reported to-day, being a boy 24 years. A girl of 6 years is suspected to be suffering from the disease. Both are from the same house at Pleasant Point, twelve miles from Timaru. AUCKLAND, March 4. Five cases were reported for the twentyfour hours up to noon to-day (two from North Auckland, one from Central, and two from South Auckland). •A FIGHTING CHANCE.” CONDITION OF MR WOOD’S SON. CHRISTCHURCH, March 4. Mr B. B. Wood’s onty’ surviving child has been declared a positive case of infantile paralysis, but the latest report is that he has a fighting chance of recovery. A SADDENING SHOCK.

MR ANDS MRS B. B ; WOODS BEREAVEMENT. Yesterday’s Lyttelton Times says: The community received a saddening shock yesterday afternoon when it became known that Vincent Ward Wood, second son of Mr and Mrs Bernard .Wood (Fendalton) and grandson of Sir Joseph and Lady Ward, had died at noon. The little boy, a bright engaging child of seven and a-half, had been ill with infantile paralysis only since the previous day, and his death is an overwhelming grief to his parents, whose eldest son died unexpectedly on Sunday afternoon. Friends in all parts of the Dominion will extend sincere sympathy to Mr and Mrs Wood and members of their family, who have been so grievously bereft under particularly distressing circumstances. The funeral of Bernard Joseph Ward Wood, Mr and Mrs Bernard Wood’s eldest son, was held yesterday morning, the cortege leaving his parents’ home at Fendalton at 9.30 a.m. for the Bromley Cemetery. At an earlier hour a Requiem Mass had been celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Manchester Street, by the* Rev. Father O’Connell, SAI., who, assisted by the Rev. Father Roche, S.M., also officiated at the graveside. Friends from all parts of the city and suburbs attended the funeral, and an unusually large number of wreaths were received, showing the esteem in which the little boy’s parents are held and the deep sympathy that is felt for them on all sides.
