MAIN TRUNK WASHOUT
EXPRESSES DELAYED. (Special to the Times). WELLINGTON, January 27. A reporter was advised by the railway traffic authorities this afternoon in response to an inquiry, that a wash-out had occurred between Kakahi and Owhango on the Main Trunk line, and was 55 yards long. The Northbound Limited express was held up at Ohakune for three hours and a-quar-ter while repairs were effected, and the down express was delayed at Tauniarunui for about 36 minutes. The wash-out is not regarded as very serious and no other damage has been reported. CLOUDBURST AND TORRENTIAL ' RAIN. CREEK BURSTS ITS BANKS. TAUMARUNUI, January 27. Cicudbursts between Kahahi and Owhango last evening washed out the Main Trunk line over a distance of half-a-mile, and delayed the first express from Wellington for four hours. The Limited train from Auckland was held up for one hour, but other trains were nearly all on time. The cloudbursts occurred shortly after 5 o’clock. A creek running on a cutting top flooded, and broke its bank, and poured in a deluge down the railway cutting, washing out the line. A gang worked from 7 o’clock till 1 befdte the line was made temporarily safe. Torrential rain damaged the roads, causing washouts. Telephone communication with Owhango is cut off.
