THE SUMMER SCHOOL
TEACHERS AT STEWART ISLAND SESSION ENDS TO-DAY. (Our Special Reporter). HALF MOON BAY, January 27. The Teachers’ Summer School is nearing completion, and the majority will return by the boat en route to their respective homes to-morrow afternoon. To-day was spent in listening to lectures by Professor Shelley on Arts and Crafts in the school, in which the lecturer gave some details of what new methods should be introduced in order to make school life more attractive for the pupils. In the afternoon he gave a demonstration to the teachers interested in the scientific methods of testing a child’s intelligence according to the latest developments of the science. Mr W. Martin also lectured, and further explained the means of identifying the various kinds of sea shells found on the beaches round the Island. Great interest is being evinced in the concert to be given in the Athenaeum tonight by the teachers in order to assist the funds of the local Sunday School. The discussion regarding the new syllabus arranged for the teaching of history was deferred until Wednesday morning.
