THE YELLOW SHADOW
THE ASIATIC PERIL. HOW AMERICA CAN HELP. GOLD FOR AUSTRALIA (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) NEW YORK, January 26. (Received January 27 11 p.m.) The National City Bank announces that it will ship 3,000,000 dollars worth of gold to Australia during the next fortnight. * It is expected other banks will also make shipments in the near future, but it is believed that the sudden flow of the precious metal will destroy the existing premium, producing a natural stoppage. The Evening Journal, Mr W. R. Hearst’s leading evening paper, in advocating investment in Australian bonds says: “American financiers will join with London bankers in helping Australia by floating a bond issue of £100,000,000. That is a good idea, those bonds will be a good bond. Everybody on this continent, north and south, is interested in anything that can be useful to Australia and New Zealand. The Australians and New Zealanders are living withing ths shadow of Asia. The frontiers-men and defenders of the white race should have all the help that can be given in money and in any other way. What is most important to buyers is that Australians will pay the debt. You may buy those Australian bonds safely. That is a deal more thar we can say for many bonds from Europe now being unloaded on American markets.”
