(Received January 25, 7.5 p.m.) At Santiago (Chile), by a sudden coup, a contingent of young army officers occupied the headquarters of the Government and surrounded Moneda Palace with an armed force. The officers declare they intend to depose the Junta Government with a view to the bringing about of neutrality in politics. The main cause of the movement is described as a growing belief that the Government is supporting a National Union Party. Later: TheJaunta Government has resigned and a new Junta has been formed.
