ABANDONED!
THE IMPERIAL CONFERENCE. -THE PROPOSAL DROPPED. NEGOTIATION BY CORRESPONDENCE. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and NJS. Gable Association.) LONDON, January 20. (Received January 21, 9 pro.). The Colonial Office, in the course of a communique, announces that correspondence with the Governments of the overseas dominions and India regarding the po»ffiibihty of arranging a special Imperial Conference in March to discuss questions arising out of the Geneva Protocol for a pacific settlement of disputes, indicates that exigencies of Parliamentary and other disputes render impossible a representative meeting in London. In the circumstances, the only possible course seems to be to endeavour by correspondence to arrive at a common conclusion on the issues involved. The Australian Press Association says it is understood that a conference of a sort was possible, but would not be sufficiently representative to satisfy the Government. Probably only* two Premiers from the overseas dominions would have been able to attend. Should correspondence prove an unsarisfaetory method of conferring, the Government will probably defer the matter till the next Imperial Conference.
