Advices from Port Sudan state that an attempt by leading residents of Jeddah and Mecca to arrange terms with the Wahabi’s failed. The representative of the Wahabi in Mecca states that peace is impossible while Emir Ali remains on the throne. This appears to be the insurmountable obstacle. Jeddah has now been placed in a state of defence and military preparations are being made to resist the threatened attack. Reinforcements are coming to Jeddah from Akaba. Many of the population are leaving.
