Signor Mascagni (composer of “La Cavalleria Rusticana” and other operas) and a company numbering 1000 are stranded in Berlin owing to the failure of the production of “Aida.” Signor Mascagni received £lO,OOO to finance the venture, but the box office receipts were so small that the salaries could not be paid, and finally company refused to sing. Three Italian directors were arrested for issuing cheques which were not met.
