PAGEANT OF EMPIRE
ORGANISER ENTERTAINED. “A WONDERFUL ACHIEVEMENT.” (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Reuter’s Telegrams.) LONDON, September 8. (Received September 9, 11 p.m.). With Prince Arthur of Connaught presiding, the Master of the Empire Pageant, Mr Frank Lascelles, was tendered a banquet by a committee of Pageant performers, chiefly Australians and New Zealanders. Prince Arthur described the Pageant as worthy of the Empire. He referred to the achievements of Mr Lascelles in Canada, South Africa and India and paid a tribute to the 15,000 voluntary performers who braved the rigors of the British summer. Mr Lascelles emphasised the educational value of the Pageant and its stimulating interest in Empire news and communication. Hon. W. Lunn, Under-Secretary to the Department of Trade, also dwelt on the enormous educational value pf the Pageant, which he described as a wonderful achievement in the Empire’s history. He added that the Labour Party was developing an Imperial policy which would strengthen the bonds of Empire more than anything else Jiad previously done.
