SUCCESSFUL SALE OF WORK* The annual sale of work in aid of the building fund for a new Waikiwi Presbyterian Church was opened yesterday afternoon in the Waikiwi Public Hall, In dealaring the sale open the Rev. J. Lawson Robinson said he understood that £7OO was already in hand, and the Presbyterian Symod in Dunedin had promised to add £B5O to this amount. As soon as £2OOO had baen obtained the building of the new chunch would be commenced, and he hoped that the sale would add materially to the amouiHt. “Churches have always to depend on the goodwill and generosity of the people,” said Mr Robinson, "and they have never yet been disappointed.” The business of the sale was then proceeded with, and judging by the large, quantity and varied nature of the goods displayed, and the keenness of the many buyers, the organisers need have no fear as to the result. The stalls were tastefully decorated with greenery and were in charge of the following ladies:— Sweet Stall—Mrs W. Morris and Misses S. Diack, N. Russell and T. Peterson. Produce Stall —Mrs Morton and Misses W. Russell, M. McNaughton, T. Dawson and Neas. Flower Stall —Mesdames E. S. Perry and L. Lennie and the Misses Perry. Plain Stall—Mesdames E. V. Popenhagen, W. F. Irvine, D. N. Greig, J. Taylor and J. Robertson. Lucky Dip—Mesdames T. Henry and W. Cawthorn. The Tearooms, a popular attraction, were in the hands of Mesdames A. W. Taylor and Steans, assisted by Misses Young, Myers, P. Howie, B. Wilson, M. Daw’son and M. Lennie. Miss M. Toshash capably performed the duties of secretary and organiser. The results of the baking competition which was judged during the afternoon, are as follows: — Fruit Cake —Mrs Barber 1, Mrs J. Robertson 2, Miss Steel 3. Maderia Cake—Mrs J. Robertson 1, Mrs W. Steel 2, Mrs Wright 3. Seed Cake —Mrs J. Robertson 1, Mrs W. Steel 2. Collection Small Cakes—Mrs W. Steel 1, 2 and 3. Shortbread—Miss Dawson 1, Miss Wright Girdle Scones —Mrs W. Steel 1 and 2, Mrs Russell 3. Oven Scones —Mrs McClelland 1 and 3, Miss B. Wilson 2. Oatcake —Mrs McClelland 1 and 2. Pikelets—Mrs W. Steel 1 and 2, Miss McNaughton 3. Home-made Bread- Mrs McClelland 1 and 2, Mrs R. Russell 3. Gingerbread—Mrs Steel 1. Sponge Roll—Miss McNaughton 1. Sponge Sandwich —Mrs Steel 1, Mrs McClelland 2. The sale will be concluded this evening when the remaining goods are to be auctioned.
