BLUFF COURT
YESTERDAY’S SITTING. In the absence of the Magistrate, Court proceedings at Bluff yesterday were conducted before Messrs E. A. Nichol and C. A. Tipping, J.’s P. George Fowler pleaded not guilty to being drunk in Gore street on May 28. He was convicted and fined 5/-, costs 7/-. Chas. W. Bradshaw pleaded guilty to being in possession of an unregistered firearm for than 7 days, and was convicted and discharged. Fred. A. Robinson for failing to notify the Defence Department of a change of address, was convicted and fined £l, costs 7/-. William M. Smith, for a similar offence was also convicted and fined £l, costs 7/-. George To Au (by letter) pleaded guilty to having assaulted Maurice Topi Potuki at Bluff on May 30. He staled that he realised that he would not have committed the offence had he not been partially under the influence of liquor. He would consent to the issue of a prohibition order against him: Sergeant Martin described the assault as a very brutal affair and accused was convicted and fined £l, costs 7/-, and ordered to pay medical expenses £1 1/-. A prohibition order in Wallace and Awarua electorates was also ordered to be issued.
J. W. Fife, charged with having obstructed Constable Cooper at Bluff on June 13, did not appear. The seriousness of this class of offence was stressed by Sergeant Martin and a fine of £2 with costs 9/-, was imposed Max Garrick, for allowing a cow to be at large on Point Road, was convicted and fined 2/6, costs 7/-.
